Executive Summary The focus of this research paper is to demonstrate the need for project management, identify the current and future trends within project management around the world, and discuss the effects of cultural differences on project management. Project management was first used in civil engineering and architecture projects but it soon spread to other industries such as the automobile and communication industries. After technological advancements, such as improvements in computer mainframes and softwares, project management softwares emerged to help manage complex projects. These programs along with locating and retaining the right type of talent within an organization becomes a crucial part of an organization’s structure and ultimately their success. Organizations must be able to assign the right people, with the right technical and soft skills, to the right project. Certification programs and in-house trainings are now available to help improve project managers’ technical sk ills, communication skills, and other soft skills needed to be effective/successful.
